Book Review: My Formerly Hot Life by Stephanie Dolgoff

by Holly on August 25, 2010

I haven’t stopped laughing since I picked up a copy of My Formerly Hot Life. Author Stephanie Dolgoff describes her life now that she’s no longer young and hot. But certainly not old. She’s a “formerly”.

My first thought was “what the heck is a formerly?” And is this book going to make me feel bad about myself?
It doesn’t. In fact, just the opposite. I couldn’t put it down, especially once I realized that I, too, am a formerly. We all are, at a certain point, and it’s not necessarily a bad thing.

There comes a time in every woman’s life when she realizes that she’s not a hip, MTV-watching, Cosmo reading twentysomething. In fact, she’s a Real Simple reading, The Big C watching, red wine-drinking mom of teenagers. And it’s better than she could have imagined.

My Formerly Hot Life takes us through the different layers of our new status in the food chain of life. Stephanie encourages women to be comfortable in their own skin, not to be concerned with what others think, and to be happy as formerlies.

If you’re on the “other side of young,” you’ll enjoy My Formerly Hot Life.
