Menopause? There’s an App for That.

by Holly on January 27, 2010

Are you an app junkie like millions of iPhone users? You probably already know then that there is an application for nearly everything under the sun. You can use apps to make grocery lists, get recipes, play games, check the weather or watch YouTube.

How about an app that allows you to track your menopause symptoms, determine treatments, journal and even email your doctor? myPause, now available from AppSolutions, can do all that and more.

Having tinkered with myPause for the past few weeks, I found three features particularly useful:

  • Journal. Record your symptoms from a list of about thirty, rating their severity and how often they occurred.
  • Trends. Shows when and how often your symptoms took place. This is helpful since you’re able to see if, and how, your symptoms are related to your diet and lifestyle.
  • Plan. Allows you to track your activities, diet, vitamin and supplement use, and medications.

My only challenge was navigating between the many features. Some were intuitive. Others weren’t. Still, a worthy app to add to your iPhone and a bargain at $4.99.

Check out the video and share your thoughts. Can technology possibly make your journey a little easier?

Holly – thanks for the shoutout!! We are very proud of myPause – created by women, for women. It's the ONLY Menopause tracker app in an appstore of 140,000 apps!!! I like to joke that it's truly the only app that has the right to be pre-installed on the new iPad (Seriously, could they not think of a better name? I bet there were no women in the room when they agreed that name!!).

We wanted to empower women with information about their own situation and about perimenopause/menopause in general, without all the commerical buzz. We've had lots of positive feedback, especially about the ability to email your journal data to your doc before visits. (Docs love this too!)

We crammed a lot of features into this app and we've tried to make them all intuitive, but you're right that some are not as obvious. We'd love to hear your specific feedback. We're in the middle of creating our next version, so all suggestions are welcome. We've got a couple new features to add and we want to fix anything that the users identify as bothersome.

We also tried to make bunches of demo videos not just on the features, but also very specifically for certain situations (eg, 'I've just had a hot flash, what do I do?'). You can find them on the website (www.myappsolution.com/mypause/faqs.htm) or on our YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/myPauseapp).

ENJOY and please send us your feedback. We're on Twitter (@myPause_app) and love to tweet. Come and join us!

Ok. I saw this post and I just had to comment. Who is making these recommendations on this application. We certainly are not taking the lifestyle approach when making the recommendations to these women. That is again why I developed Menopause Support so that women can make informed decisions in their care.

My best friend has this app and she never really talks about it. I guess I'll have to ask her about it. This looks very interesting. Guess it's true…theres an app for everything.

There’s is also a Menopause Diet app (as of this week) for iPad and an iPhone app to follow. It isn’t a diet in the losing weight sense but one using phytoestrogens to manage the symptoms that some women suffer during the menopause.

I am perimenopausal and hating it! Was using ptracker to track my cycles but this app is aimed towards women trying to conceive and does track the symptoms I want to track.
Does the mypause also track menstrual cycles as well as symptoms?

It does allow you to journal and track how heavy or light you cycle is. I think you might find it very useful.
